Silent Screams From the 200

BRING BACK OUR GIRLS

It’s a bit unreal to me to think that it’s possible in this day and age and especially with the outstanding technology that blankets this earth, that over 200 screams from the belly of Nigeria go unheard.  Is it really possible that your daughters, nieces and cousins could simply vanish without a sign at one time…in the middle of the night? Is it really possible that no one did a thing to stop it?

Can’t be! We’re able to locate terrorists and the like, but not these defenseless young girls? It’s been well over 2 weeks now and still nothing.  There are so many questions, very slight media coverage and no answers.  This just shouldn’t be.  I simply can’t imagine waking to find that my sisters, nieces or cousins have vanished…kidnapped.

If you’re wondering what in the world am I talking about…I’m referring to the 200+ (some reports stating 234) girls kidnapped in Nigeria by militants known as Boko Haram, an “Islamist group fighting to overthrow the government.”  This group is being held responsible for the kidnappings for the purpose of selling the girls into slavery.

But there is so little coverage on this case.  Nigerian women continue to protest, a “Red” protest for their daughters pleading Nigerian government to put more effort into bringing back their girls.  #BringBackOurGirls have become a worldwide message to the Boho Haram and Nigerian government.  What can we do as human beings to bring these girls back to their home…their families?  While discussions are brewing and less attention is focused on the Sterling racial case, people, we have got to do something to bring this nightmare to an end…but how?

Here’s what CNN is saying…

“Nigerians have rallied for days to criticize the government’s handling of the rescue efforts. Hundreds wept and chanted “bring back our girls” during protests in the capital of Abuja on Wednesday. A day later, protesters gathered in Lagos.”  | http://www.cnn.com/2014/05/01/world/africa/nigeria-abducted-girls/index.html?iref=allsearch
